How many hours do I have to tutor if I am a volunteer or receive Federal Work Study?
A.

You should tutor for a minimum of four hours a week as a volunteer or work a minimum of 5 hours a week for FWS.

What do I need to do in order to get paid?
A.

You should stop by the Cornell Public Service Center (200 Barnes Hall) and speak to Carol Rundle to get on payroll. You will need to do this before you start working; the starting wage is $7.25 per hour.

Who needs to sign my timesheets/Cornell Tradition endorsement forms?
A.

Your site supervisor (the person in charge at the school or after-school site at which you tutor) should sign those forms, NOT the REACH Fellow.

How do I get to my site? Does REACH pay for transportation?
A.

Most REACH sites are accessible either by TCAT bus or walking. Directions can be found on the web site. Because REACH pays higher wages to FWS students than normal on-campus jobs, and because some sites are accessible by walking, REACH only compensates for 30 minutes of travel time per round trip to urban sites for transportation, and a total of 60 minutes if you work at a rural route. This is noted as "travel time" on Fellow/Tutor time sheets separate from direct service activity.

Is it okay if I don't have prior tutoring experience?
A.

Yes! We will be hosting training workshops that require your participation to stay active in the program, as well as additional training workshops throughout the academic year to help you learn how to be a better tutor. You will be required to attend 2 out of 3 (either at your site or at Cornell) training workshops plus 2 tutor-reflection meetings per year.

If I am a REACH volunteer do I need to fill out the volunteer community service time log?
A.

You only have to fill out the service time log if you will be needing proof or varification of hours you spent during tutoring as a volunteer. You will be responsible to fill this log out and get it signed by your site supervisor at your site. You will need to drop it off at the Public Service Center.
