The PSC is saddened to relay the news of Lucas Wooster, GRASSHOPR program coordinator's
untimely passing. Below, please find a message from our Executive Director, about
this recent tragedy.
Dear Students, faculty, Staff and community friends and partners-
With profound sadness I share with you the news that Lucas Wooster died unexpectedly
early Sunday morning. Lucas was one of our outstanding graduate students who coordinated
the GRASSHOPR-Graduate Student School Outreach Project for the last 4 years. Under
his commending leadership, GRASSHOPR designed and delivered over 100 mini courses
to schools in the Ithaca and surrounding school districts. We all, the PSC community
of students, faculty and local community partners are going to miss Lucas very
much. We have lost a dedicated colleague, a staff member, an engaged scholar and
friend. Let us support each other as we grieve this loss to our Public Service
Center's community.
A memorial service will be held for Lucas on Wednesday, November 4th, at 4:30
in the "Cafe" room of Anabel Taylor Hall. The room is straight back at the end
of the hall as you come through the front entrance. Janet Shortall will be leading
the service and Lucas's parents plan to be in attendance. Those who wish will
be invited to say a few words about Lucas.
Leonardo.
The Graduate Student School Outreach Project provides an opportunity for graduate
students to share their knowledge and some of the resources of Cornell University
with area elementary, middle, and high school students. Graduate students collaborate
with teachers to share their expertise and experience with students through a
variety of six-session mini-courses taught by the graduate student. These mini-courses
typically take place one class period weekly for eight weeks between March and
May. The specific schedule will be determined by the collaborating graduate student
and teacher.
