The EYES program strives to benefit both student volunteers and the community through:
* Promoting engineering, math and science to regional elementary, middle, and high school students
* Increasing the number of students progressing to engineering-related studies and/or professions
* Complimenting the school’s science/math curriculum with our volunteers’ creative projects
* Providing Cornell undergraduates with an opportunity to develop social responsibility by contributing to the local community
* Helping volunteers develop time management, leadership, and interpersonal skills
* Enabling volunteers to further solidify crucial concepts as they seek to encapsulate these ideas into their own creative projects
* Teaching volunteers about education issues through service learning
At the beginning of each semester students studying engineering, math and science
split
up into groups and design new interactive projects or modify past projects for
elementary, middle, and high school students.
All EYES volunteers attend workshops led by former teachers on curriculum design
and classroom presence
After preparing and rehearsing their projects, volunteers go out into the community
and present the lessons in a hands-on school environment.
