Wagon Restoration Project

With over 500 registered student organizations, numerous projects and events, it is easy to get involved in the Cornell service community. Most groups are based on campus, but focus service efforts on a local, national, or international level. All are open to undergraduates and graduate students, unless otherwise noted.

Alternative Breaks

Participate in a community service-learning trip with a team of students engaged in service projects and experiential learning.

Bright Red Bookshelves

The Cornell Public Service Center is the coordinating host of the Cornell Community of the Bright Red Bookshelf, a project of the Family Reading Partnership.

Community Partnership Board

This student board fosters student leadership by helping students develop and fund grassroots community service projects that tackle the root causes of social problems.

Cornell Companions

Cornell Companions is a pet visitation program sponsored by the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.

Cornell Elderly Partnership (CEP)

A program for students who are interested in volunteering their time to the lives of Ithaca's elderly residents.

Cover Africa

Cover Africa is dedicated to malaria intervention in Africa. This year, Cover Africa has partnered with GHEI to offer short- term volunteer projects to enable those interested in international volunteer work to gain the experience they desire and to help the community.

Encourage Young Engineers & Scientists (EYES)

Student volunteers from the College of Engineering develop hands-on interactive engineering activities that teach math and science skills.

First Book

The purpose of First Book is to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. 

Friends of Farmworkers (FOF)

The purpose of Friends of Farmworkers (FOF) is to provide consistent English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to farmworkers who know little or no English.

GRASSHOPR (formerly known as GSSOP)

GRASSHOPR (formerly known as GSSOP) connects the knowledge and resources of Cornell with area schools through mini-courses designed and taught by graduate students.

Into the Streets (ITS)

ITS promotes lifetime commitment to public service and social action. On an average Into the Streets day, more than four hundred students complete more than thirty service projects throughout Tompkins County.

Ithaca Hunger Banquet

Once a year students organize a Hunger banquet whose proceeds are distributed to Tompkins County food pantries.

Language Pairing Program (LPP)

If you are interested in developing your conversational foreign language skills and/or helping someone practice their conversational English skills, then this program is for you!

Let's Get Ready! (LGR)

Let's Get Ready! is a program that empowers Cornell University undergraduates to provide free SAT and college preparation to targeted high school students in the Ithaca community.

Operation D.E.E.P.

Operation D.E.E.P. is a project launched by a group of Cornell students who care about the education opportunities for the underprivileged children in China. D.E.E.P. currently is a co-sponsor of the Jin-Ni LFA Hope School in Jiangxi, China, and members go there each summer to give English lessons to students and training to local teachers.

Pre-Orientation Service Trips (POST)

This program enables first-year and transfer students to live in and learn about the Ithaca community while making new friends through hands-on community service and evening activities.

PSC Leadership Council

The PSC Leadership Council (PSCLC) is a group of campus program leaders committed to strengthening their programs and providing assistance to other programs serving Ithaca and regional community needs.

Raising Education Attainment Challenge (REACH)

REACH is a Cornell student movement that partners with the community in support of children’s educational achievement by practicing reflection, student leadership, and reciprocal learning.

Sexual Awareness for Everyone (SAFE)

SAFE is a Cornell Public Service Center student-run program that engages students in sexual health education and outreach activities.  More specifically, it works to raise awareness, especially about HIV/AIDS and other STIs, and promote safe sex practices through a variety of workshops, condom distributions, and events on and around the Cornell campus.

Together

The purpose of Together is to mentor a group of patients with chronic diseases who consistently attend doctor's appointments, but have difficulty with the daily management of their disease.

Translator Interpreter Program (TIP)

Volunteers act as translators/interpreters in emergency and non-emergency situations for 200 local agencies. People who are bilingual or multilingual are highly encouraged to help alleviate language barriers in Ithaca. Training is given.

Youth Outreach Undergraduates Reshaping Success (YOURS)

YOURS reaches out to a neighborhood in Freeville, NY, to provide opportunities for experiential learning for youth.
