Meet the Board
Joran Sequira
Co-Project Coordinator

Joran Sequeira is a senior Human Biology, Health and Society major in the College
of Human Ecology. Since she was a very active volunteer at nursing homes back
in her hometown of Wayne, NJ, Joran joined CEP her first year at Cornell and is
loving it to this day. Not only does she enjoy interacting with the elderly and
learning about their life experiences, but is also interested in seeing how aging
affects people in different ways. By being on the EBoard, Joran hopes to inspire
more students to actively volunteer at Ithaca’s nursing homes, become more interested
in the field of geriatrics, and appreciate the wonders of old age.
Galina Tan
Co-Project Coordinator

Galina is a senior studying Biology & Society/premed in the College of Human
Ecology . She was born in Singapore, and her family moved to Texas when she was
nine-years-old. When she was growing up, both of her parents worked full-time,
so she was primarily taken care of by her grandparents. Although they have since
moved back to Singapore, they are still an important part of her life. When she
first heard about CEP, she immediately thought about the great influence that
her grandparents have had on her life. Galina feels that much of the elderly population
is underappreciated, which is why she joined CEP. She has learned so much from
her friends at Lakeside and has thoroughly enjoyed the CEP experience thus far.
Lily Cao
Treasurer

Lily is a junior in the Biological Sciences major in the College of Agriculture
and Life Sciences. Throughout her life, she has lived in China, Japan, and Canada.
Now she and her family live in Bethesda, Maryland. Ever since middle school, Lily
has been involved in volunteer work in her community, be it at local hospitals
or at non-profit piano concerts. After coming to Cornell, she became involved
with CEP as a way to continue volunteer work. So far, it has been an educationally
and emotionally rewarding experience.
Lida Zheng
Secretary

Lida is a sophomore Human Bio, Health and Society major in Human Ecology. She
was excited to join CEP her freshman year to continue her volunteering with the
eldery. Though she has lived in Arkansas, New York, Ohio, Maryland and now Massachusetts
she has always been involved with the senior community. She loves hearing stories
from her grandparents who raised her when she was little. She believes everyone
has something that they can share with the elderly and even more to learn. Lida
enjoys sharing her love for arts and coloring and just talking to the residents.
She loves the opportunity CEP gives her to meet such great people!
Elise Sideris
Outreach and Webmaster

Elise is a senior Biology major in the College of Arts and Sciences who hopes
to go to medical school. She is from Marlton, New Jersey, a suburban town outside
of Philadelphia. Her grandmother had lived with her family until Elise left for
Cornell, which is when her family decided to put her grandma in a nursing home.
When Elise was 10, her grandmother started to show signs of dementia, and her
condition rapidly worsened. Throughout high school, Elise had to help her family
care for her grandmother. During one of her summer breaks, Elise volunteered at
Senior Care, a center that provides social interaction and care for the elderly
during the day. At the beginning of her sophomore year, Elise decided to join
CEP because she knew she would enjoy interacting with people who are often underappreciated
and overlooked.

Jee Lee
Newsletter

Jee is currently a sophomore in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She
is planning on majoring in Biological Sciences and plans to fulfill her pre-med
requirements along the way. Jee has joined CEP because she has volunteered at
a local nursing home where she lives in NYC. She really enjoys working with the
elderly and hopes to continue to bring them joy and happiness from this world.
In addition, by interacting with the elderly, she feels she is able to learn many
valuable life experiences from them.

Robbie Brewer
Visits Coordinator
Robbie is a sophomore in the School of Hotel Administration from Beaufort, South
Carolina. He decided to become involved with CEP because he wanted to reach out
to the elderly, get to know them, and interact with them. Robbie has had an enjoyable
experience during high school with the elderly and that has motivated him to continue
visiting nursing homes in college.
Hannah Lipshultz
Gardener

Hannah is a senior Biology and Society major in the College of Arts and Sciences.
She became involved in CEP her sophomore year and has made a really amazing connection
with a resident she visits weekly. Hannah has always enjoyed working with the
elderly, and has in the past played her violin for groups of very excited elderly
residents. She believes that creativity through music and artistic expression
is something of great therapeutic value to the elderly. Hannah is also an avid
lover of the outdoors and has found nature to hold immense therapeutic value as
well. She hopes to share this belief through her work as the CEP Gardener, and
is very excited about her new project that involves making the courtyard garden
more attractive to birds.
