Idea: Tenant/Landlord Rights & Responsibilities Focus of Consumer Presentation

Description: Tenant/Landlord Rights & Responsibilities will be the topic of Cornell Cooperative Extension's Monthly Consumer Issues Program. Mike Danaher, NY State Assistant Attorney General will discuss related issues such as how a well written lease protects both the tenant and the landlord, how security deposits are managed, when and how evictions occur, and what to do when needed repairs are not done. Info regarding rental regulations specific to the City of Ithaca as well as info pertaining to the lead-based paint disclosure law and sampel disclosure forms will be available. There will be an opportunity to consult individually with Attorney Danaher. Advance registration for this free program is not necessary.

Idea: Helping Youth Thrive: Supporting LGBT youth, their families and allies in your youth program

Description: This workshop will provide concrete tips and tools for youth workers to build their skills and comfort for working with LGBT youth and confronting bias, bullying and harassment based on real and perceived sexual orientation. This interactive workshop will include group activities, up-to-date data, resources, and an opportunity to practice new skills. Great care will be extended to the participants to ensure a safe, non-threatening, voluntary learning experience.

Idea: Remember the Seneca Women's Encampment For a Future of Peace & Justice

Description: The public is invited to a free showing of the films: Every Woman Here: Remnants of Seneca 1982-2006 and Stronger Than Before. There will also be photo exhibit on display on the Seneca Women's Peace Encampment. Video interviews are being conducted to collect oral herstories in the UU annex on April 4, 5 &6.

Idea: Parents Apart: Parents Helping Children Cope with Separation and Divorce

Info: This is a 6-hr workshop presented monthly by local mental health and legal professionals. The workshop can be completed in two evenings (6-9pm both evenings) or on a Saturday (9am-4pm) with a one hr break. The upcoming dates are: Feb 4 and 11, March 29, April 21 and 28, and May 17. The cost of workshop is $40 and the locations are in the Ithaca area.

Idea: Northwestern University Conference on Human Rights (NUCHR)

Info: The 5th annual NUCHR is proud to announce a national student conference on "Globalization and the Universality of Human Rights," which will take place on Northwestern's Evanston campus on April 10-13. The Conference will examine the impact of globalizing forces on the tension between cultural relativism and the universality of human rights in four key areas: cultural and religious tensions, multinational corporations, international justice, and health. NUCHR will provide the funding to bring talented undergraduate student leaders and activists from college across the country to attend a three-day summit.
