Description: WACC is a statewide consortium of higher education institutions
that have joined together to advance the public purposes of colleges and universities,

communities. WACC is part of a national network, with 31 affiliated state offices
and more than 1000 colleges and universities as members. The WACC VISTA Project
members will mobilize college service-learners and volunteers to serve poverty-affected
students and community members, develop and sustain campus/community partnerships
to serve poverty-affected students and community members, and develop college
service-learning courses that address poverty issues.
The WACC VISTA Leader will hold 2 main roles: team coordinator for the state-wide
VISTA project and contributor to special WACC office initiatives as assigned throughout

Description: The VISTA members will serve as research assistants in a study of
the relationship between schools and community poverty in rural and urban areas
of Oklahoma. The study seeks to alleviate poverty by identifying schools and their
characterisitcs that have served as change agents in low-income communities. The
volunteer will work in a state of the art social research facility housed on the
research campus of a flagship institution for higher learning. The successful

in Albuquerque.

Description: They are seeking an individual who will help continue their 1yr
old community time back. The Tompkins County Time Bank helps to empower youth
and families in a neighbor to neighbor Time Bank model. For the past 30yrs, YAP,
Inc. has served youth & families with complex needs and problems. Our agency,
started in 1975, helps children and youth with high needs and often difficult
situations. VISTA will work with youth and families with various economic, social,
and emotional needs, As a 1yr program, new initiatives will involve growing and
sustaining the time bank. You will recruit, engage and retain members in a service
exchange program to build a service-exchange network. Activities include coordinating
monthly meetings, engaging community members, creating new activities for members,
networking members to each other, publicity, and fundraising. Training is available.
Monthly newsletter, working with TB members, and mamanging and operating the community
Time Bank. Additional tasks will include business outreach and development.

many communities? We have a job for you! The AmeriCorps program at Mile High Youth
Corps is a team-based, labor intensive work program that addresses environmental,
community, affordable housing and youth development needs in the Denver Metro
and surrounding mountain areas. Corps members work on crews of 8-10 members to
complete diverse projects for community sponsors such as Colorado State Parks
and the Governor's Energy Office. Example projects include trail building, community
gardening, fire mitigation and home energy conservation. Corps members also participate
in weekly educational and civic activities, as well as team-building and post-corps
career exploration. Over time, Corps members can earn the opportunity to serve
in leadership roles on crews of their peers and will receive specialized training
to prepare them for these roles.

Description: The year-found Gulfsouth Youth Action Corps devotes 10 months of
service to
help restore youth programs in New Orleans and surrounding areas. To qualify,
you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident, be team-oriented,
work well in a structured environment, and be willing to take on a wide range
of challenges. You must also be willing to relocate to serve in New Orleans, Louisiana.
During the 10 month service term, members receive uniforms, health benefits, and
a taxed lviing allowance at a base of $11,192. Upon successful completition of
their 1700 hrs of service, members receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of up
to $4,725. Housing is not provided, however, Operation REACH, Inc. staff will
assist year-round Corps members with location affordable housing during service
term.

Description: TCHFH is located in the vibrant heart of the Finger Lakes area in upstate,
NY, along Cayuga Lake. Despite its beautiful setting, about 13% of Tompkins and
Cortland County residents live in poverty. Our mission is to build/rehab houses
for families in need of decent, affordable homes in our area. We are also planning
to build in both counties by 2008, including the construction of an affordable
"green" house. This project will promote energy efficient living and costs savings
for the Habitat family. We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, skilled
quick learner who wants to join us in growing our organization so that we can
build more decent affordable homes for needy but deserving families in the two
counties.
