About the Program

Participants can be involved in one of two ways: as a Team Leader or a Volunteer. Team Leaders lead a group of 8-12 students to a particular assigned site and project. Team Leaders can either recruit their own group of friends, colleagues, teammates, etc., or simply have volunteers assigned to them. Participants are led by Team Leaders to their respective projects and sites and again knowledge about the surrounding community and public service.

Agencies

Agency applications is closed for this year. We invite your agency to participate in the 20th annual Into The Streets Day of Service, sponsored by the Cornell Public Service Center. Your agency can participate by organizing a community service project to take place from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28th and 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday October 29th (if your project necessitates a different time period, contact our Agency Coordinators and we will work to accommodate you). Generally, projects should involve a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 students, however we may be able to accommodate you with more under special circumstances.

Into the Streets' primary goal is to encourage participating students to become and remain active in their community. To aid in our efforts, we request that a representative from your agency greet our volunteers and offer a brief introduction explaining your organization’s history and community role, the project and how it benefits your agency and/or your agency's clients. This staff member should remain available throughout the afternoon to answer any questions and provide general oversight of the project. We hope that the project you sponsor will be both meaningful and beneficial so that these new volunteers will have an inspiring introduction to community service.

Once your application is received, the Into the Streets board will contact you, review the project proposal, and will make arrangements. If you have any questions or need assistance in planning a project, you may call 255-8851, e-mail us at intothestreets@cornell.edu, or fax us at 255-9550. It is highly recommended that communication be done via e-mail when possible. We look forward to your participation!
