Curriculum Development

The Executive Director, Leonardo Vargas-Mendez (ljv1@cornell.edu), is able to assist you on an array of curriculum concerns and issues you will face when developing a service learning course.

Assistance includes:

  • providing service-learning course models
  • discussing standards of a service-learning course
  • assisting with assessment and evaluation tools
  • advising and providing bibliographical resources on service-learning issues
  • informing faculty of funding opportunities for service-learning course development
  • providing links to national, regional and local resources (training, conferences, electronic, speakers, etc.)

Site Development

The Center's Community Placement Program has an ongoing relationship with over 150 community agencies in Tompkins County. A meeting with our Executive Director may help you to find sites appropriate to your course needs.

Assistance includes:

  • help in developing a list of community agencies serving populations and attending issues appropriate to course subject
  • providing contacts with selected community agencies
  • assisting with development of the learning contract between faculty and the community agency
  • helps to develop monitoring and risk management procedures
  • informing faculty of the array of community service opportunities available for students off campus
