If you are interested in working in not-for-profit sector outside of Tompkins County but don’t have an agency in mind, apply for positions that are currently posted on our website. Check out the projects that we currently have available!  You will need to submit a cover letter stating the positions that you are interested and attach a resumé to Amy Somchanhmavong, Assistant Director of Community programs.  She will then forward the received information to the Agency contacts.  The agency will then make a decision for interview based on your qualification for the project.

During this process, you can start identifying faculty members that are willing to serve as Service-Learning mentors for you during the summer.

If you have specific agencies in mind, you must contact the agencies directly.  Work with the agency to develop the summer project description.  While you and the agency are developing the description, it is preferable that you include the faculty member at the beginning of this process.    This way, the Service – Learning Plan would then be developed and completed.

What do I get out of this?

  • Gain valuable work experience, relevant to academic and professional goals
  • Acquire work and life skills
  • Reflect critically on the experience
  • Opportunity to work for desired agency
  • Understand and solve complex problems
